The Daily Record today tried to make the Scottish Independence Campaign by the SNP look like a bunch of money grubbing greedy sods, by running this story on it’s website, available here. Entitled ‘Alex Salmond begs SNP supporters for cash to fund independence rally’, they try to make the SNP and Alex Salmond seem to be begging the Scottish public for cash instead of using the million quid donated already by lottery winners Colin and Chris Weir.
As one of the handful of Scots that donated £10 to fund the leaflet campaign, I don’t see it quite the same way they do. Or more importantly, I don’t see it the way they want their readers to see it.
The way I see it, I wasn’t begged by Alex Salmond or anyone else to contribute to the campaign for Independence from Westminster. I see it as ordinary Scots who can afford to part with ten quid, donating it directly towards a chance for a better Scotland, free to choose it’s own future, deciding it’s own destiny, instead of some rich elite tossers trying to tell us what we should be doing or accepting, much like we got last year during the No to AV campaign. While Yes campaigns were done using crowd sourcing and donating their time for free, the No campaign used millions donated through the Tory party.
I’ve wanted Scotland to stand up for itself for a while now. I’m totally fed up with the way Westminster is constantly screwing over not just the Scots, but the rest of the UK as well. Dumping the burden of Tax avoidance by the rich and the failure of Big Business, onto the shoulders of the people. Their version of economics is along the lines of Survival of the Fittest. And that just doesn’t fit in with the moral compass of your average 21st century Scot.
I don’t need the SNP to fight for my Independence and freedom from the crap that is shat on us by Westminster and the likes of The City Of London Corporation. By joining together with others we will pay for, and volunteer our time to help further the argument that Scotland is fed up with the current mismanagement of our affairs, and that we as a people are taking back that responsibility. And we’ll do it without the help and hinderance of The Daily Record and the BBC.
And my personal message to the SNP and Alex Salmond is, don’t get comfy in charge if we do gain Independence. We won’t put up with any corruption in our Government like the UK has with their Westminster Governments. We will not tolerate cosy tax deals with Mr Global Corporation, or special relationships with Mr Media Mogul.
We will not accept a single piece of legislation that takes away our fundamental freedoms or liberties, except the freedom to be irresponsible.
See I think that a Government ran by the people, usually make their decisions based on moral values instead of monetary ones.
